"L." in the title stands for "Like", the sleepers are Eastern European hardwood, they can be any hardwood species.
These are new hardwood railway sleepers freshly machine cut. This is green wood, therefore please keep in mind that it might move and split, especially in the summer when it dries out and tries to match the air moisture content as well as the temperature. This is a natural process, not a defect.
The sleepers are untreated. It is recommended to stain them with oil, which will keep the sleepers moist, allowing them to dry slower in a more controlled way.
Keep in mind that it is normal after couple of months for the new wood to change colour to a silver grey due to the bleaching effects of the sun.
